What is a movable mullion?

The movable mullion in the windows is an element that allows you to open and close the window freely, even if it is located in its central part. This is a particularly useful solution in large-sized windows, which usually consist of two or more sashes.

The movable mullion is mounted between the window sashes and allows them to be opened separately or simultaneously opened in their entirety. Thanks to this, the user has more flexibility in regulating the air flow and the access of light to the room. The movable mullion is usually equipped with special hinges that allow it to rotate freely.

Depending on the construction of the window, the movable mullion can have different shapes and sizes. In some windows, especially those with unusual shapes, the movable mullion can be a non-standard element that is made to order.

It is worth noting that not all windows have movable pillars. In the case of traditional windows that open sideways or upwards, mullion is stationary and acts as a support for the window sash in the closed position.

Movable pillars in the windows are popular in modern architecture, which focuses on large glazing to let in as much light as possible and allow free access to the outside environment.
